Using Fathom with Google Meet

Fathom looks for any meetings on your calendar with a Google Meet link in the location field and adds those to your Fathom desktop app drawer.

You can see the list of your meetings for the day in your Fathom desktop app drawer.

If you don’t see the green “Start Recording” button or the Fathom drawer when your Meet starts, run through this quick checklist:

1. 1. Confirm the Chrome extension is installed and enabled

   Chrome can disable an extension after an update adds permissions that require your approval. If this happens, you’ll need to approve the new permissions before the extension can run again.

   1. Open chrome://extensions in Chrome and find Fathom.

   2. Make sure the extension is toggled ON. If Chrome says it needs new permissions, review the request and follow the prompts to approve the permissions and re-enable Fathom.

   3. Check that Fathom can access Google Meet. With your Google Meet tab open, click Chrome’s Extensions (puzzle-piece) icon, open the menu (3 dots) next to Fathom, and look for “This can read and change site data.” Allow access on meet.google.com.

   4. If Fathom isn’t listed, reinstall the extension from Settings → Fathom Apps → Chrome Extension.

   5. After making changes, refresh your Google Meet tab and check for the Fathom recording button.

2. Verify the calendar event

   1. Check that the meeting is scheduled in the Primary Calendar (Multiple calendars not supported)

   2. The Meet link must be in the LOCATION field of the calendar invite (not just the description).

3. Use “Add to Meeting” as a backup

   1. Click the Add to Meeting icon in the desktop drawer, paste the Google Meet URL, and press Enter. Fathom will join instantly, even if the call wasn’t on your calendar.

4. Still stuck?

   1. Quit and reopen the Fathom desktop app, then re-join the Meet.

   2. Ensure you’re on macOS/Windows (Chromebooks & Linux aren’t supported).
