Using the Fathom iOS mobile app
The Fathom iOS app brings Fathom to your iPhone. You can capture in-person conversations from your phone and review summaries, action items, and past meetings on the go. Everything lands in the same Fathom history as your desktop and web recordings.
The iOS app complements the desktop and web experience. It does not replace them. It enables capture and review when a laptop isn’t practical, such as in-person meetings or conversations away from your desk.
What does the iOS mobile app do?
With the Fathom iOS mobile app, you can:
Record in-person meetings and conversations directly from your iPhone. No Zoom, Google Meet, or Microsoft Teams link required
Toggle on capture settings for calendar meetings and send a Fathom bot to virtual calls
Review past meetings, summaries, and key moments from your phone
Review, check off, or add action items
Watch or listen to past meetings on your phone
When should I use it?
The iOS mobile app is built for conversations that don’t happen on Zoom, Google Meet, or Microsoft Teams. It’s also useful for joining meetings or reviewing past meetings when you’re away from your desk.
Common use cases:
In-person meetings: prospect & customer meetings, interviews, 1:1s
On the go: any meetings where you don’t have a laptop
Before the next meeting: pull up what was said last time, what was decided, and open action items
After the meeting: review, assign, or check off action items before you’re back at your desk
Conversations you couldn’t capture before (e.g., in-person meetings or calls taken without a laptop) can now become part of your Fathom history.
Who can use it?
The Fathom iOS mobile app is available:
On all Fathom pricing plans
Only on iPhone at launch. On iPad, the app is available in compatibility mode (it resembles the iPhone experience).
Globally except in China and regions subject to OFAC sanctions. Users located in these regions may be unable to access Fathom:
Belarus
Cuba
Iran
North Korea
Russia
Crimea, Donetsk, and Luhansk regions of Ukraine
How does it work?
In-person meetings
The Fathom iOS mobile app captures in-person audio from your phone’s microphone, then processes the conversation the same way Fathom processes your other meetings: recording, transcript, AI summary, and action items.
Scheduled virtual meetings
For scheduled meetings on your calendar, you can toggle on capture settings and send a Fathom bot to an upcoming call:
Zoom: The bot joins when you join the meeting.
Google Meet & Microsoft Teams: The bot joins automatically at the meeting start if you have autojoin enabled.
When you’re within 5 minutes of the meeting start time, you’ll see a button allowing you to join the meeting from your phone.
Any meetings recorded on your phone will also appear in your Fathom history on the desktop and web apps.
Speaker identification
Fathom transcribes the conversation and determines who spoke when. If you opt in to voiceprinting, Fathom creates a voiceprint only of you (the person who opted in) so your words can be attributed to you in the transcript. Other people on the recording are not voiceprinted and may appear unnamed in the transcript.
Voiceprinting is opt-in and iOS-only. It is separate from recording consent. Learn more in Voiceprinting explained. If you do not opt in, a voiceprint will not be created for you.
How to download and set up the app
On your iPhone, download the app from Apple’s App Store: Fathom on the App Store.
Sign in with your Fathom account, or create a Fathom account.
When prompted, tap Enable Notifications > Allow to get notified once your meeting notes are ready after a call. You can also enable notifications at any time in your iOS Settings > Apps > Fathom > Microphone.
Allow Fathom to use your microphone when prompted by tapping Continue > Allow. Fathom needs access to your phone’s mic to capture in-person conversations.
Review and agree to Fathom’s Data & Privacy terms to continue.
Choose whether to opt in to voiceprinting. This is optional and you can skip this step if you like. It helps Fathom identify your voice for in-person recordings. Fathom does not create a voiceprint of anyone else on the call.
You’re ready to capture a meeting!

How to record an unscheduled in-person meeting
You don’t need a calendar invite or a Zoom/Meet/Teams link. To record an unscheduled in-person meeting:
Open the Fathom iOS mobile app.
On the Homescreen, tap Capture In-person Meeting. Note: If you start a recording within 10 minutes before or after a scheduled meeting, Fathom may ask if you want to capture that calendar meeting instead of starting a new in-person recording.
The recording starts immediately. The default title for unscheduled conversations is In-person Meeting. You can tap on the title to rename it.
Tap How Many Participants to choose how many people are in the conversation. This helps to ensure accurate notes. Note: For scheduled in-person meetings where you’ve already added attendees, the number of participants will be auto-populated.
Place your phone where it can clearly hear everyone. Audio quality depends on phone placement and how noisy the room is.
When you’re done, tap the stop button. Confirm that you want to end the meeting.
For Fathom to upload and process the recording, an internet connection is required. If you’ve enabled notifications, Fathom will send you a push notification when the summary, action items, and transcript are ready.
The recording will appear in Fathom on the mobile, desktop and web apps.
If capture doesn’t start, check the following:
No connection: Fathom needs an internet connection to capture. Try again when you’re online.
Call in progress: Fathom needs your mic. Finish the other call, then try again.
Watch the video demo below on how to record an unscheduled in-person meeting on the Fathom iOS mobile app.
How to access your upcoming meetings
From the iOS mobile app, you can easily access your upcoming meetings and manage your capture options for each call.
Open the Fathom iOS app and find your upcoming meetings for the day on the Homescreen.
Scheduled meetings without a Zoom/Meet/Teams link will automatically display as an “in-person” meeting. Tap Capture to begin recording.
For scheduled calendar meetings with a Zoom, Google Meet, or Microsoft Teams link, tap Bot not joining to toggle capture on for that meeting. This sends a Fathom bot to record your virtual meeting. Note: If it’s a Zoom meeting and Zoom isn’t connected yet, follow the prompt to connect Zoom. After it’s connected, you can turn capture on.
When you’re within 5 minutes of the meeting start time, you’ll see the option to tap Join Meeting & Send Bot.
Depending on which platform you’re using for your meeting, the bot joining behavior will differ slightly:
Zoom: The bot joins when you join the meeting.
Google Meet & Microsoft Teams: The bot joins at the scheduled start if autojoin is enabled.
For scheduled meetings with an attendee list, you can choose to Share Notes with Attendees when the call is done. This option is not shown for unscheduled meetings since Fathom needs a list of the attendees to email the summary to them.
How to review meetings, summaries, and action items
After a meeting is processed:
Tap the Meetings tab to access your Meetings list.
Tap on a meeting to watch or listen to the recording. Audio/video playback can continue in the background if you leave the app or on the lock screen.
Switch between the Summary, Action Items, and Transcript tabs to view your notes. You can check off action items as you complete them, or add a New Action Item.
You can rename a meeting by tapping on the title and entering a new name.
To delete a meeting from your Meetings list, swipe left and confirm. Deleting a recording can’t be undone.

Tips for better in-person recordings
Put the phone close enough to pick up everyone in the conversation.
Fathom’s transcription is built for real-world rooms (cafes, conference rooms, live events), but accuracy still depends on audio quality.
You need an internet connection to capture. Offline recording is not available.
Limitations at launch
The app is iOS only (not available on Android)
Phone calls cannot be recorded
“Ask Fathom” feature is not supported
Meeting search is not supported
For hybrid meetings (conference room + remote attendees), speaker naming may be limited at first
FAQs
Can the Fathom iOS app record phone calls? Not at this time. The iOS app is designed for capturing in-person conversations — prospect meetings, on-site QBRs, interviews, and 1:1s.
Can I record meetings directly from the mobile app? Yes. On iOS, you can record in-person meetings and conversations directly from your phone.
Does this replace the desktop experience? No. The mobile app complements the desktop experience by enabling capture and review when a laptop isn’t practical.
Which pricing plans have access? All Fathom users on all Fathom plans will have access.
Is my data secure on mobile? Yes. The mobile app follows the same authentication, security, and data protection standards as the rest of Fathom.
Will recording with the Fathom iOS app drain my battery? Battery usage is comparable to recording a standard voice memo.
How does Fathom handle noisy environments and will my transcript still be accurate? Fathom’s transcription is built to be resilient in real-world conditions, including busy cafes, conference rooms, and live events. Audio quality can still affect accuracy, so getting your phone reasonably close to the conversation will give you the best results.
Are other people at my in-person meeting voiceprinted? No. Fathom only creates a voiceprint of the opting-in user — not clients, prospects, or vendors.
